My great-grandparents immigrated from Lithuania in the early 20th century and brought with them this potato recipe that I have been eating my whole life. My grandfather actually had to teach my grandmother to make it, who in turn taught my mother and my mother taught me. Definitly an heirloom recipe.

Just wanted to say that this indeed a very old recipe I have the same one saved from my Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and Mother, all Lithuanians! I have such fond memories of this kugulis recipe being made by all of them. I am so happy to see it shared with others such a delicious, hearty and comfort food!

Pinched and printed this recipe today! Sounds wonderful! It was quite awhile ago that you won this contest Jamie so congratulations a long time after the fact! This sounds so good for this time of year in Wisconsin when the snow and cold are here.

Jamie, a suggestion about finding your Lithuanian sausage; have you tried Amazon. I've been craving my fave childhood memory, a Swiss German sausage called Landjaegar and I found it on Amazon after missing if for over thirty yrs. I have been extremely happy with the three different companies I have ordered it from, all thru Amazon. Now my hubby is hooked too : ). I hope you can find a supplier for yours too.
