- self-rising flour

- green tomatoes (cut into 1/4" slices)
- bacon drippings or vegetable oil
1Mix egg & buttermilk together in a shallow dish. Mix flour,cornmeal and salt in a shallow dish.
(If you don't have self-rising flour use: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder & 1/2 tsp. salt.)
2Working in batches, dip tomato slices into egg mixture, allowing excess to drip back into dish. Coat with flour mixture.
3Fry in hot oil (375) in a large, heavy skillet until brown. Turn once with tongs. Transfer to colander or paper towels to drain.
