Fried Apples

Apple season is upon us. Turn those fresh,juicy gems into the best Fried Apples you have ever tasted.
Quick & easy with a short ingredient list.
I have been making these since 1948 when my mom taught me to do them.

8 large
tart apples - cored, sliced (granny smith)
1/4 c
bacon drippings or butter
1-1/2 tsp
fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 c
dark brown sugar (packed)
1/8 tsp
kosher salt
1-1/2 tsp
ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp
freshly ground nutmeg


1In a large cast iron deep skillet, melt bacon drippings or butter
2Layer prepared apples evenly over skillet bottom.
3Sprinkle lemon juice over them, add brown sugar and salt.
4Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes until apples are tender.
5Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
6Stir in spices and enjoy
7Note: Crumble crisp bacon over apples as a garnish when serving.
