I LOVE Apple Butter! If you do too, you must try this recipe that incorporates a hint of orange!! ENJOY

I think my Mom-mom would have been proud!!

Ingredients

PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 450

6 lb
apples of choice, chopped
1/2 gal
apple juice (i prefer martinellis)
1 tsp
cinnamon

SIMMER TOGETHER TILL SOFT & RUN THRU FOOD MILL. ADD:

1-2 tsp
cinnamon (to taste)
1-2 tsp
nutmeg (to taste)
1/2-1 tsp
cloves (to taste), optional
1-2 c
white sugar
1 c
brown sugar
1-2 tsp
vanilla
1 stick
butter, optional
zest of 1-2 orange
juice from 1-2 orange

ALL SUGAR & SPICE MEASUREMENTS SHOULD BE BASED ON YOUR OWN TASTES. START W THE LEAST AMOUT & ADD MORE TO SUIT YOUR PALLET & EVERYTHING IS OPTIONAL (WELL, EXCEPT THE APPLES)

Directions Step-By-Step

Return apple sauce to pot the apples were simmered in & add remaining ingredients. Transfer to a large, deep GLASS or CERAMIC casserole dish (anything but metal). Place in oven @ 450 for 1 hour. Stir & reduce heat to 350 & cook for another 5-7 hours stirring every hour & every 30 minutes as it thickens. I baked mine for about 7-8 hours & reduced the heat to 250 in the last 1-2 hours.

May also be left in simmer pot and cooked on stove or in your crock-pot. But I believe the oven adds a certain richness!! DO NOT USE YOUR CROCK-POT IN THE OVEN! I CRACKED MINE!! :'(
