Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons karo syrup
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

How To Make buttermilk syrup

  • Step 1
    In a saucepan, combine the first five ingredients; bring to a boil. Boil for 7 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla
  • Step 2
    Note: To make more of a caramel flavored version, keep the heat on med while stirring to decrease foam. Stir constantly to avoid any burning and take off heat as soon as it is thickened and a little darker in color. About 5 more minutes
