My husband loves to experiment in the kitchen with a few things. BBQ is one of them. I finally got him to measure and write down his recipe for homemade BBQ sauce.

This BBQ sauce has just the right bite. It definitely has some heat for those who like it ... but not enough to scare others away.

Ingredients For dad's bbq sauce

  • 1/2 lg
    yellow onion, chopped
  • 3
    green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    Vlasic hot pepper rings, chopped and 2 tablespoons juice
  • 2 bottle
    Kraft hickory smoke bbq sauce
  • 1 3/4 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    French's prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 2 tsp
    ground black pepper
  • 4 tsp
    tabasco sauce
  • 8 oz
    honey

How To Make dad's bbq sauce

    In a deep saucepan, sauté both types of onions in a little olive oil until tender over medium-high heat.

    Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower heat to medium-low and continue to simmer until mixture has thickened, about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Keep refrigerated.
