BARBECUE SAUCE (SALLYE)

This is a traditional Texas style barbecue sauce that is excellent for brushing on grilling meat or serving as a sauce

You can control the spiciness by increasing or decreasing the chili powder (we like ours spicier)

Stove Top

Ingredients

1/2 c
butter
1 medium
onion
2 clove
garlic
3 Tbsp
dry mustard
4 Tbsp
do it yourself chili powder (link in comments)
2 c
tomato catsup
1/2 c
apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp
(heaping) brown sugar
1 Tbsp
honey (optional)
2 Tbsp
worcestershire sauce
1 to 2 c
water
1 Tbsp
lemon juice
salt & pepper to taste
1 to 2 Tbsp
liquid smoke (optional)

Directions Step-By-Step

Peel and quarter onion

Peel garlic cloves

Place in food processor and pulse until minced finely

Melt butter in a heavy sauce pan over medium high heat

Add onions and garlic

Saute until onions and garlic are translucent (about 5 minutes)

Stir frequently to avoid burning

While onion/garlic mixture is cooking, combine all other ingredients in mixing bowl

Whisk briskly until well blended

Pour liquid over onions/garlic in saucepan and bring to a boil

Reduce heat and simmer for 15-30 minutes until sauce is thickened

Stir frequently to avoid sticking and/or burning

Brush over grilled meat during and after cooking.
