Nancy J.'s Notes:

My son dropped of a bunch of fresh asparagus for me.
I have been using it up while it so fresh.
I made a pot of asparagas soup.
Steamed some & added to a salad.
Ate a couple of steamed stalks for a snack.
Then with what was left..decided to make this recipe for my lunch.
It turned out so good,I wanted to share this delicious, and very simple recipe for you to enjoy.

Directions

1
Melt butter over low heat.
Stir in flour and black pepper.
2
Stir untill well blended.
Remove from heat.
Gradually stir in milk and return to heat.
Cook ..stirring constantly,
untill thick and smooth.

Grandma always said:
"Gotta havea few lumps to be good!
so's you know it's homemade)

NOTE:..If you would like a cheese sauce-gravy , when the gravy is thick add 1-1/2 cups of grated cheese, stir in and cook.
3
Put toast on a plate,
cover toast with the steamed asparagus.
Ladle on the hot milk gravy..to your liking!
I LIKE LOTS & LOTS!....LOL
4
..NOTE; You can add gratted cheese
sprinkled on top of the toast and gravy..
..OR..even crumbled hard boiled egg yolk...
makes it look so purty!

Nancy, once again this sounds very good. I happen to like asparagus and also like milk gravy and its many variants. Sadly, I don't have ready access to fresh asparagus like I did growing up. I'll have to visit one of our many farmers' markets around Indy. Don

Just so happens I love asparagus and have quite a bit on had fresh! I also love milk gravy... I grew up with it put on more things than I can count, so will definitely try this. I often love having simple things like this for dinner, especially when I am just not up to a lot of cooking. By chance do you have that Asparagus Soup Recipe too. I remember eating that and loving it when I was growing up too. Asparagus grew wild in areas around us, plus my Mom use to plant it in our huge family garden every year.

Hi Ma,
This looks like something that I might like. Hubs isn't crazy about asparagus. I bought a CAN of asparagus today and he said "why you buying that?" I said "for me...I'm gonna eat it". I will have to get some fresh asparagus the next time he goes out of town with his friend, Ted for the day and make this JUST FOR ME!

Thanks for changing your profile pic back to the Pat I remember. LOL. I think it is the BEST picture of you. Anyway, you are right "men don't know what's good." My hubby also likes his carrots RAW and his celery RAW. He will eat cooked celery if it's in a soup....and he doesn't 'see' it. LOL. Mine also likes corn-on-the-cob.
How is Robert doing these days? 3/5/13
