Shawn's StoryI got the original recipe from a friend while I was stationed in the Republic of Panama in the mid 80's. I have made some changes here and there. This is perfect for picnics and church functions-- it makes a huge bowl!!! So make sure you have a large bowl to mix in... I use my plastic cake carrier and flip it upside down. Then I leave it in the container to travel.
I have used different dressings in the past, but none of them adds the flavor like the catalina dressing.
hamburger or ground chuck, cooked and drained
head of lettuce-chopped
can of black olives-drained
taco seasoning mix
kidney beans-rinsed and drained
shredded cheddar (or your favorite cheese)
bag of nacho flavored doritos-coarsely broken
small- catalina dressing
1COOK 1 LB. HAMBURGER WITH ONE PACK OF TACO SEASONING ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS. WHEN DONE, ADD KIDNEY BEANS AND REMOVE FROM HEAT. IN LARGE BOWL MIX ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS BUT DRESSING AND CHIPS. ADD MEAT MIXTURE. TOP WITH CHIPS THEN THE DRESSING. STIR UNTIL COMBINED AND ENJOY!!!!!
NOTE**** YOU MAY WANT TO ADD MORE DRESSING DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE HEAD OF LETTUCE. YOU WANT EVERYTHING TO HAVE DRESSING ON IT BUT YOU DON'T WANT IT SOGGY.
IF TAKING THIS SOMEWHERE ELSE, KEEP MEAT AND BEANS IN ONE CONTAINER, LETTUCE IN A SEPARATE CONTAINER, AND ALL OTHER VEGGIES IN AL LARGE BOWL. MIX EVERYTHING TOGETHER WHEN YOU GET THERE TO KEEP LETTUCE AND CHIPS FROM GETTING SOGGY.
2***** DEPENDING ON THE TACO SEASONING YOU USE, YOU CAN MAKE THIS MILDER OR SPICIER.
