cold lye soap (heirloom recipe)
I was going through some old family recipes and came across this one. I had never seen it before, but I believe it's my aunt's handwriting. The instructions are exactly as they were written. I don't think I'd want to bathe with this soap, but I'd bet that it will get your clothes good and clean!

1 canlye (size?)

2 1/2 ptcold water

5 1/2 to 6 lbclean grease

3/4 chousehold ammonia (optional)

1 cborax (optional)

a few dashcologne or perfume
How To Make cold lye soap (heirloom recipe)

1Dissolve one can of lye in 2 1/2 pints cold water.

2When cool, stir slowly into 5 1/2 or 6 pounds of clean grease.

3You can add 3/4 cup household ammonia and one cup of borax.

4Continue stirring occasionally, till soap begins to set.

5Always use a porcelain pan. (Sometimes I use a little cologne or perfume.)
