2 lb kielbasa sausage (sliced 1/2 inch thick)
1 medium cabbage (head, chopped)
1 large sauerkraut (jar or can)
1 c onion (chopped)
1 Tbsp butter
1 can(s) tomatoes (28 ounces, undrained)
4 c chicken broth
1/3 c brown sugar

I have never tried it like this before... with tomatoes! I will have to give it a try...

Colleen, the brown sugar reduces the acidity of the tomatoes, not to mention the sauerkraut. It's good! :-)

Baking soda will reduce acidity in terms of the PH balance in a tomato dish (for those with sensitive tummies). Adding sugar will balance the acidic flavor. I always add brown or white sugar to my recipes with cooked tomatoes. I guess it's just personal preference. :-)
