A family favorite!

I serve this dish with mashed potatoes and pumpernickel bread and butter.


2 lb
kielbasa sausage (sliced 1/2 inch thick)
1 medium
cabbage (head, chopped)
1 large
sauerkraut (jar or can)
1 c
onion (chopped)
1 Tbsp

chicken broth
1/3 c
brown sugar

Directions Step-By-Step

Combine all ingredients in crockpot.
Cover and cook on high 4-6 hours or low 8-10 hours.

    Colleen, the brown sugar reduces the acidity of the tomatoes, not to mention the sauerkraut. It's good! :-)

    Sounds good. I didn't know that the sugar could reduce the acidity. Thanks for the information.

    Baking soda will reduce acidity in terms of the PH balance in a tomato dish (for those with sensitive tummies). Adding sugar will balance the acidic flavor. I always add brown or white sugar to my recipes with cooked tomatoes. I guess it's just personal preference. :-)
