The caramelized exterior of this sandwich adds an awesome buttery, caramely, salty crunch that marries extremely well with the interior ingredients of the sandwich, in fact, this sandwich is a total addiction! I can't even make them fast enough to keep up with the family.

Ingredients For caramelized grilled cheese special

  • 4 slice
    wheat bread
  • 3/4 stick
    real butter
  • 1/3 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 2 slice
    honey ham
  • 2 slice
    white cheddar cheese
  • 4 slice
    bacon, cooked
  • 1 md
    pear

How To Make caramelized grilled cheese special

  • 1
Lay 4 pieces of wheat bread on cutting board.
  • 2
Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in small bowl.
  • 3
Generously butter each slice of bread to edges of bread covering entire piece of bread. With a teaspoon put the cinnamon mixture generously on top of the buttered bread.
  • 4
Lay 2 pieces of the bread cinnamon side down in frying pan. Next add a slice of cheese, a slice of ham and 2 pieces of bacon.
  • 5
With a potato peeler, slice off slices of pear and place on bacon, add another slice of the cheddar cheese and put the other piece of bread on top of that with brown sugar side facing up.
  • 6
Fry on medium low heat like you would a regular grilled cheese sandwich. You want the ingredients in the middle to heat and the cheese to melt but you also want the outside of the bread to get crunchy. When everything is melted, remove from frying pan. You will want to turn the sandwiches a couple of times, ensuring that both sides get caramelized. WATCH OUT ... the brown sugar can burn so the minute you see it start to burn ... quickly remove sandwiches to plate. Slice in half and enjoy!

TIP: If you see the brown sugar cooking too fast and the middle of the sandwich is not melted, just remove from pan and microwave for a couple of seconds to melt the middle.
