This new macaroni and cheese recipe is gonna be a spicy one, filled with jalapenos and pepperjack cheese and topped with a spicy bread crumb topping.

Ingredients For spicy macaroni and cheese

  • 1 c
    crumbled cooked bacon
  • 3/4 c
    grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 Tbsp
    crushed red pepper flakes, divided
  • 16 oz
    dry elbow macaroni
  • 1 Tbsp
    creole seasoning
  • 2 tsp
    avocado oil
  • 3/4 c
    panko bread crumbs
  • 1 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 4 Tbsp
    margarine
  • 4
    fresh jalapeno peppers, seeded and diced
  • 5
    pepperoncini peppers, sliced
  • 1 md
    red onion, chopped
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    heavy cream
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 8 oz
    pepperjack cheese, shredded and divided
  • 8 oz
    white American cheese, shredded and divided
  • 1 Tbsp
    sea salt mixed with black pepper
  • 2 tsp
    ground cumin

How To Make spicy macaroni and cheese

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Coat a 3-quart baking dish with cooking spray. Add crumbled bacon, grated Parmesan cheese and 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes; mix well.

    Cook the macaroni according to package directions; drain. Season with creole seasoning and mix well.

    Heat the avocado oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the panko bread crumbs, chili powder and 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes. Cook and stir for 3 minutes until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.

    Heat margarine in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add diced jalapenos, sliced pepperoncini peppers, and chopped red onion; cook, while stirring, about 2 minutes until very fragrant.

    Add flour to the veggie mixture and cook while stirring for 1 minute.

    Slowly add the heavy cream and milk to the veggie mixture while whisking and continue to cook and whisk until no lumps remain and the sauce is thickened.

    Add the cream cheese cubes into the sauce mixture and cook, stirring, until melted.

    Add 1 cup shredded pepperjack and white American cheese to the sauce mixture and cook, while stirring, for 5 minutes until melted.

    Add the sea salt/black pepper and cumin to the sauce mixture and stir well for 3 minutes until combined.

    In a large mixing bowl, add the cooked macaroni, prepared cheese sauce and remaining crushed red pepper flakes. Mix together until combined.

    Pour into a prepared baking dish evenly.Sprinkle with remaining shredded pepperjack and white american cheese and toasted bread crumbs.

    Bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is melted. Cool for 10 minutes.
