SO, being from NY, I could not imagine this combo. After one taste out to eat one night, I was sold; may not be southern but my family loves my northern version!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
Super smooth and satisfying, this recipe could easily be doubled for a potluck or party. Next time I may add butter to the grits for an even creamier consistency. Yum!

Ingredients

1 1/2 c
water
1 c
grits quick cooking
1 c
grated sharp cheese
1/2 stick
butter
1/2 c
chopped onion
1 lb
cleaned cooked medium shrimp
2 Tbsp
chopped fresh parsley
2 clove
crushed garlic
2 Tbsp
lemon juice, fresh

Directions Step-By-Step

1
cook grits as per directions, add cheese. Reduce heat to warm while preparing shrimp.
Melt butter, saute' garlic & onions until softened. Add shrimp, toss in parsley and lemon juice.
Place grits on warmed plates, top with shrimp, enjoy

When it says 1 c of grits, is this referring to cooked grits or uncooked? 1c of uncooked grits yeilds 6 servings or cooked grits, but the recipe doesn't serve but 2-3?

When we go out to eat my husband always orders shrimp and grits if it is on the menu. When I saw your recipe I saved it because I wanted to try it. I made it yesterday and he LOVED IT!!!! He said it is the better than any he's had before. Thank your for sharing! 5 star rating from me. :)

Grits and Polenta are not the same thing. They are made of ground corn but they are processed differently. This url tells you the difference. ask.yahoo.com/20021007.html

Sorry people we just don't have anything like Grits or Polenta where I live. We have oatmeal and couscous. If I ever get state side I'll look for some and bring it home to try.
