Sweet and Sour Chicken

My family likes chicken and I have been trying out different recipes using fruit and vegetables,,I have done this for the main courses and in salads as well,,with many great comments from family and friends.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot


1 kg
1/3 c
packed brown sugar
1/4 c
red wine vinegar
chicken split {4 thighs and 4 drumsticks}
2 Tbsp
all purpose flour
garlic cloves finely chopped
1 large
red onion cut into 1/2 inch wedges
1 medium
sweet green pepper cut into strips
1 can(s)
15 ounce peach halves, drained and cut into pieces
1 can(s)
10 ounce mandarin oranges
1/2 c
chopped parsley
1 c
long grain rice cooked to package directions


1With vegetable peeler, cut 3 strips of zest from orange and thinly slice the zest...squeeze out the orange juice into the slow cooker, you should have about 1/2 cup of juice. whisk in the sugar and vinegar and {salt and pepper to taste}.Toss the chicken with the flour and add to cooker and cover with the onion and garlic.Cook covered 7 to 8 hours on low and 5 to 6 hours on high.
2Cook the rice and set aside until the chicken is cooked..Remove the chicken from cooker and add the pepper and fruit and cook for about 10 minutes return the chicken to cooker to warm up mix well and spoon the chicken contents over the rice, and serve.
3Before I had a slow cooker I cooked the chicken in roasting pan for about 45 minutes then added the fruit and pepper to the roaster and cooked it for about 15 minutes and served over rice.
