1Rinse chicken, and place into large pot.
Cover with water.
Add salt, pepper and onion powder
Bring to boil, and cook until very tender
2Remove chicken, and cut into bite-sized pieces to cool quicker
Place flour into large bowl, and add shortening
Cut shortening in with fork, until mixed well
Take 3/4 cup hot chicken broth, and mix into flour, forming a stiff dough
3Add chicken back to broth on a low simmer
Place dough on floured surface, and roll to 1/8 inch thickness
Flour top of dough
Cut into strips about 1 inch long and 3/4 inch wide
4Placed floured dumplings in the slow simmering broth
push down lightly, so all dumplings go under the broth for a second.
Cover and cook, very lightly simmering for 8 minutes.
Turn heat off, And allow to sit 15 minutes before serving.
