San Antonio Chili Con Carne

Karen's Story

My family has had it's chili recipes for many years. As they vary slightly from one kitchen to the next, I came up with a recipe that combines them all into one big pot of love!


2 lb
ground beef or diced stew meat; (try venison if you can)
1 c
diced onion
3 Tbsp
minced fresh garlic
1 can(s)
diced fire roasted tomatoes with liquid
1/4 c
chili powder
1 Tbsp
ground cumin
1 Tbsp
1 tsp
1 tsp
black pepper
1/2 tsp
cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp
oregano, dried
2 c
chicken broth, unsalted
2 c
beef broth, reduced sodium

Directions Step-By-Step

Brown meat; add onions and garlic and saute lightly; stir in spices; add tomatoes and broth; bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 2 to 3 hours. * Adjust spices to desired heat level; serve with fresh chopped cilantro, onion, shredded cheese, sour cream, corn chips. You can also add a can of pinto or kidney beans if you like.
