I found this recipe 40 years ago and it tastes so good! Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients For roundsteak sauerbraten

  • 1 1/2 lb
    top round steak cut in strips
  • 1 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 pkg
    dry brown gravy mix
  • 2 c
    water
  • 1 Tbsp
    onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1
    bayleaf
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • To taste
    ground black pepper

How To Make roundsteak sauerbraten

  • 1
    Heat the oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add the sliced meat and brown well. Remove meat, add the gravy mix and water and brin to a boil, stirring constantly.

    Stir in the onion powder, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce,ginger, bay leaf,and salt and pepper to taste. Return the meat to pan, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for one hour or until meat is tender. Remove bayleaf.

    Note: you could also transfer to casserole dish and bake at 350° for 1 1/2 hours!
