I have adopted this orphaned recipe and tweaked it to make it my own. Will take a pic the next time I make it, if I can figure out how, lol. Let me know if you enjoy it!

Ingredients For ria's savory beef stew

  • 2 lb
    stew beef, seasoned, your choice
  • 1/4 c
    flour, or enough to coat beef
  • 1/4 c
    oil
  • 2 can
    potatoes, chunked
  • 2 lg
    carrot, chunked
  • 1 md
    onion, rough chopped
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced (i use a garlic press)
  • 1 can
    beef consomme
  • 1 can
    beef broth
  • 28 oz
    crushed tomatoes
  • 3/4 c
    red wine
  • 1/2 tsp
    thyme, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp
    rosemary, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper, or to taste

How To Make ria's savory beef stew

    Season the beef chunks with salt & pepper, then coat with flour.

    Meanwhile, in a dutch oven w/lid, heat oil over medium high heat. Add the beef and cook, turning until browned.

    Remove beef and set aside.

    Add next 4 ingredients to saucepan; saute 5 minutes.

    Return beef to saucepan.

    Add beef consomme, and next 5 ingredients.

    Bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat, cover and simmer until meat is tender, about 45 minutes.

    Adjust seasoning as needed with salt and pepper.

    Serve over rice or noodles, accompanied by southern cornbread.
