jamie's Story

I saw Rachel Ray making a hamburger shepards pie last week and thought that is something I can also do with my Hamburger Stear recipe.

Ingredients

HAMBURGER STEAK
1 lb
ground beef
1 c
panko bread crumbs
1
egg
1 can(s)
15 oz size of vegie mix without the potatoes
1 tsp
italian seasoning
1 clove
garlic grated
GRAVY
1 can(s)
beef broth
1/4 c
wine,merlot
1/4 c
heavy cream
1
sweet oinion, sliced
1 c
sliced mushrooms
1 Tbsp
italian seasoning
1 Tbsp
worchestershire sauce
3 Tbsp
flour
olive oil, extra virgin, enough to cover bottom of pan
salt and pepper to taste
MASH POTATOES AND LARGE HAMBURGER BUNS

Directions Step-By-Step

1
HAMBURGER STEAK: In a large mixing bowl put in the hamburger and egg. Mix egg in good. Add all the ingredients except vegetable blend. Mix good then add vegies and mix well.

Patty up about 4 patties or the way you want them to be in size. Broil or grill till done on both sides and center.
2
Mash your potatoes and add garlic and chives and set aside
3
Gravy: Place olive oil in a large skillet and let get hot then add in onions, mushrooms and grate the garlic over this and simmer till tender. Salt and pepper to taste and add italian season. Spinkle with the flour and stir like a paste. Add the wine and then the cream. Stir well and add in the beef broth. Cook till thick if you need to make thicker then add a little more flour but not directly in the gravy because it will lump but add with the broth and then to the gravy. Set aside
4
Bun: Toast the buns and remove and butter the buttom and sprinkle with garlic powder. I used all the buns upside down for the top one but used them all.
5
Place the bun down on a cookie sheet with the steak burger on top, then add a scoop of mashed potatoes and place under the broil about 5 minutes on low and place the rack low. Keep an eye on it so not to burn.
6
Remove from the oven and pour over the gravy.

Now ready to eat your Hamburger Steak Shepards Pie.

Thank you Jamie...yes, you said it perfectly! That is what is going on...it is best to just have a good meal so the brain will be satisfied and we can get back on track again. I agree, sometimes it is best to give in, so we can go on, but it is important to go on with the diet, and not lose grasp of our diets, since all the work and effort is lost. For the first time, I really am/feel very serious about my weight loss, and it sounds like you have been this way too recently! I have really been enjoying it realistically though, since I am doing something constructive with my health for once...now the next stage of the diet begins the exercise routine..lol!

I do Brenda it is the body just craving and once I let the craving be fed I can get back on track. But if my brain keeps saying I am not satisfied it is trying to get a certain food base and until it does I can't stop the craving so just dive in and it is over then back on track.
Thank you Brenda

Jamie, I know what you are referring to regarding weight loss...I have worked at losing 25 pounds within the last six months...I am still losing weight..wow, do I get hungry! But, sometimes I think we do need to take at least a one night break and reside on our diets again tomorrow. I get soooo hungry and the other night surprised myself when I gobbled half of my sons xtra cheese pizza up..lol! But, I was hungry and weak and couldn't resist it that night..oh well, what are we suppose to do..but I have been doing good ever since that night..lol! I plan to lose 25 more (50 total), and am soooo seriously dedicated about it..I have never lost so much in my life as I recently have (25 pds recently). I dont want to regain it either, because it took too much time and effort, it took the last six months to starve in order to take it off, and no way will I regain it..I dont know what got into me the other night though...!
