How To Make caramelized french onion soup

  • 1
Place reynolds slow cooker liner in crock pot. Add beef broth, water, worcestershire, bay leaves, stock. Set aside.
  • 2
Slice all sweet onions as thin as you can. Add to a large skillet on the highest setting. Cook 10 - 15 minutes, stirring every 3 minutes, until light golden brown. During the last 3 minutes, sprinkle 1 tbsp sugar evenly over onions. (The sugar helps the onions caramelize faster). Add slowly to the crock pot to avoid splashing.
  • 3
Repeat same procedure with the red onions. If too thick with onions, add 2 - 4 C more water.
  • 4
Cook on LOW 6 - 7 hours. Remove bay leaves.
  • 5
When soup is done, bake texas toast as directed on package.
  • 6
    Preheat broiler to HIGH.
  • 7
Ladle soup into bowls; add texas toast on top & 2 - 3 slices provolone & place under broiler until cheese is all melted, about 2 - 3 minutes - JUST KEEP AN EYE ON IT...you don't want it to burn.
