Ingredients For favorite hot cocoa

  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    plus 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
  • dash
    salt
  • 1/3 c
    hot water
  • 4 c
    milk
  • 3/4 tsp
    vanilla

How To Make favorite hot cocoa

    Combine sugar, cocoa, and salt in medium saucepan; blend in hot water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils; boil and stir 2 minutes. Add milk and heat to serving temperature (do not boil). Remove from heat; add vanilla. Beat with rotary beater until foamy.

    Variations: Substitute the follow flavors for the vanilla: Canadian Cocoa: 1/2 teaspoon maple extract. Irish Mint Cocoa: 1/2 teaspoon mint or peppermint extract. Orange Cocoa Cappuccino: 1/2 teaspoon orange extract. Swiss Mocha: 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules. Viennese Cocoa: 1/8 teaspoon each ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg. Serve with cinnamon stick.
