I never make it the same way twice! lol
Sometimes with a can of cream style corn and a corn of whole kernel corn drained.
Peas with mushrooms or without mushrooms
Veg-all.
Frozen mixed veggies.
Cooked carrots with and without peas.
Peas and corn.
Mixtures are endless to your families taste.

This recipe sounds great but Shepherd's Pie should be made with lamb...

I do not care for lamb and I have one allergic to it. So we make it with ground beef.

I'm sorry if I insulted anyone, the great thing about recipes like this is there is no wrong way to make it. I was only referring to the origin of the name.

Marcia, I was not offended. Not at all. Just stating why mine is not with lamb. I know the original recipes where made with lamb. In RI the french canadian community we call it pot a chinois. Literal translation is chinese pie - don't ask how or why they named it this. lol

hmm Ive never made it any other way this is the way my grandma made it and other than changing the vegtables or adding extra cheese . I make it the way my family likes it and they allways fight over who gets the last piece . Sometimes I make 2 and freeze it in slices so they can microvave it when they want . It freezes well.

The tomato sauce interests me, I never made it that way. Sounds great that's why I'll make it this week :)

Same here - never made it with tomato sauce. I have made it with brown gravy - but my family likes it without the gravy mixed in with the meat. Once in a while I will make gravy and serve it on the side. Most times, its not touched. My group likes to at ketchup sometimes. I too will make two but the second one never makes it into the freezer! They fight over who is getting a piece to take for lunch. I have one that will eat it for breakfast! lol

I have made it without the tomato sauce and putting a layer of cheese over the meat instead .And that worked out really well.
