This is a family recipe that has been handed down 3 generations now. It's "secret ingredient" keeps everyone guessing. I won a Red Ribbon (second place premium) at the Manatee County Fair a few years back with this recipe. Bound to be a winner with your family too!

Ingredients

1/2 c
hot water
3 Tbsp
butter
1/2 c
grape nuts cereal (the original, not the flakes)
3
eggs, beaten
1 c
dark karo syrup
3/4 c
granulated sugar
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 pinch
salt
1/2 c
pecans, chopped
1
pie crust shell

Step-By-Step

1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2In a small bowl, mix together the hot water, butter and grape nuts. Set aside 5 minutes to soak.

3In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, karo syrup, sugar, vanilla and salt until well blended.

4Add the grape nuts mixture to the second mix and stir well.

5Add the chopped pecans and stir well.

6Pour into the pie shell and bake on the center rack for approximately 1 hour or until the center of your pie is firm.

7NOTE: To make a fancier looking pie, you can add whole pecans to the top in a pattern before you bake.
