Old-Fashioned Sugar Cream Pie (David Letterman's Mom)

Donna's Story

This is from "Home Cooking with Dave's Mom" pg. 166-167.
Dave's Mom writes: "I concocted this recipe by taking the best ingredients and suggestions from three differnt sugar cream pie recipes. I've had it for years and the whole family likes it."


8" unbaked pie shell
1/2 c
granulated sugar
1/2 c
packed brown sugar
1/2 c
of salt
2 c
heavy cream
freshly grated nutmeg

Directions Step-By-Step

In a small bowl mix sugars, flour & salt.
Gradually stir in heavy cream.
Pour into pie shell and sprinkle with grated nutmeg.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
Reduce heat to 350 degrees, bake for 20-25 minutes longer.
NOTE: Center of pie will be slightly runny when done.

I have the book that this is in and I've been making this pie for at least 10 yrs for every Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. My whole family loves it and it is one of my kids' favorite things to look forward to at the holidays. It is very rich though, which is why I only make it during the holidays. It is easy and comes out great every time.

Actually, not yet... I posted it for someone who was looking for that specific recipe from that specific book... she couldn't find her copy. One of these days I may get around to trying it. :)

Never had a sugar cream pie. May have to try this out of curiosity. Have you made this before Donna? What's it like?
