Mother's homemade chocolate pie

Ingredients

6 Tbsp cocoa
1 c sugar
2-1/2 can(s) whole milk or 1 can canned milk remaining with regular milk
4 egg yolks - save whites if you're making meringue
4 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla (i use real vanilla)
4 Tbsp butter

In large kettle mix cocoa, sugar, salt and flour and whisk together.

In separate bowl whisk together egg yolks and milk. Add egg/milk mixture to your kettle and put on stove over medium heat.

Bring mixture to a boil whisking "constantly" and continue to cook, while whisking, until thickens and bubbly all over. Take off the burner and stir in butter and vanilla.

Once the butter has melted your chocolate pudding is ready to put into your crust. You can then top with meringue or cool and cover with whipped cream.

I guess....yes this was given to me by a dear friend which her mother has made this for several years. It's a lot of work but SO worth it for sure! thanks for sharing :)

why 2 1/2 cans or is it cups of milk

You are using canned milk, so whatever the ounces are in each can you can convert to ounces of regular milk. I only use canned milk for this recipe. Hope this helps.
