I am giving this pie a 5 star!!! I made it for a dinner this evening and everyone raved about it. This pie wasn't runny, just a beautiful texture! And so tasty, we all loved it. I will make this one again and again!

You inspired me to make a small pie for my husband and me. I actually used 1 pear and 1 granny smith apple - mixed with a little cinnamon and some amber agave syrup (for those of you who want less sugar. Just taste your fruit to see how much sweetener you need). While my pie crust was chilling I sauteed the apple and pear in a little butter. Then while the mixture was cooling, I added a small amount of apple juice to the saute pan, a little ginger, cardamon and cloves (whatever spices you like) and let the juice reduce a little. Add it to the sauteed apple and pear and you have a fantastic filling for a small pie. Baked it at 375 degrees for about 35 minutes. My husband gave his whole-hearted approval. Thank you Karen for this inspiration.

I am going to try this one, my mom always made apple pear, but the traditional way, with less sugar,(1-1/4 cup, with 1/3 cup flour) I am curious to know if you have ever tried it, using less sugar? I am looking forward to seeing how cooking the fruit first changes the texture of the filling. Thanks for sharing!
