Keep in mind that it is a substitute and that the flavor will be much milder than the real thing! But this is the closest substitute you will find.

1Put sugar and water into a sauce pan over medium-high heat. Cook stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and a thick syrup is formed. Cool and put into a jar.

Brown sugar is made by adding molasses to it... so this syrup will have a very mild molasses flavor, but using this substitute could alter the flavor of the recipe (less molasses flavor).
