Frannie's Notes:

I've always told people that this is an old family recipe that I got from my aunt and I have been making it for decades. It is truly loved by everyone and often requested for family gatherings. The funny thing is that I "remember" getting it from my aunt, but when I made it for her, she told me it's nothing like her recipe. LOL!!! She did love it though.

Light, buttery and perfectly flavored with almond...

Directions

1
In heavy medium sauce pan slowly heat water, 1/2 Cup butter, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until butter is completely melted. Bring to boil and turn off heat.
2
Immediately add the flour all at once and stir vigorously until well mixed.
3
Add 4 whole eggs, one at a time, beating thorougly until completely combined after each egg.
4
Spread onto ungreased cookie sheet (pretty much fills a 15" X 11" cookie sheet).
5
Bake for about 25-30 minutes in preheated 375 F oven. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
6
FROSTING: In medium bowl thoroughly whip 1/2 cup soft butter, powdered sugar, almond and vanilla extracts, and 1/2 teaspoon salt (don't omit salt). Add milk as needed to achieve desired frosting consistency.
7
Frost cooled pastry (using all or only part of frosting as desired for personal taste). Sprinkle sliced almonds over fresh frosting. Cut into twenty pieces ~ ENJOY!

Frannie, this sounds interesting and I like different (than what I have previously made) recipes.

Is the crust more like a cake, cookies or pie? I definitely plan to try it soon, but am just curious as to the outcome since you didn't post a picture.

Thanks for posting your aunt's recipe (even if it is not like hers -LOL).

Hi Pat! It's like a large thin cream puff, and can be almost custardy inside or a bit drier depending on how long you bake it. I prefer mine on the drier side, but it's delish either way. I'm excited to know how you like it, so good or bad give me your HONEST opinion (I'm a tough old girl ~ lol!). Thanks in advance for giving it a try, and thanks for commenting. That is what makes this club fun.
