Cassie's Notes:

I found this recipe in my Taste of Home magazine..I like to serve these with ice cream and caramel sauce..my family just loves them..

Credits go to: Bernice Snowberger, Monticello, Indiana

Directions

1
In a bowl, beat egg, milk and oil. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt; stir into the egg mixture until smooth (batter will be thick). Peel, core and cut apples into 1/2-in. rings.
2
In an electric skillet or deep-fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Dip apple rings into batter; fry, a few at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over hot fritters
3
I serve with ice cream and caramel sauce..

Enjoy!

These sound so good! I'd probably have trouble cutting the apples into rings. Is it easier with one of those apple corer (sp ?) things?

Also, have you made these in a skillet instead of a DFF? I have a DFF but I don't like using it.

Nancy,

I make them in my Iron skillet...lol, I have two of them, makes it quicker...I have also made them in my electric skillet.

I am going to share another dumpling recipe my Gram always made..but I am going to make them first..so to have a yummy picture to go with..

Oh, and I peel the apple, and slice them with a sharp knife, right thru the core...then use my skinny tomato knife and cut out the center...you could use a corer..I used to have one of those...can no longer find it..

Hey Cassie,

You're up late! Isn't it after midnight where you are? LOL! I love it when I post something late in the evening and you respond right away! That is awesome!....not that I always expect it.....LOL!

Thanks for the tip on the apples. It sounds like having a sharp knife is the key to those coming out right. I do have some really sharp knives so I should be okay. I have both an iron skillet and an electric skillet, but I will probably use the iron skillet on your suggestion.

I can't wait to see your Gram's dumpling recipe. I'll bet it is the best.

I have a thin sharp knife but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be for tomatoes. LOL! I'm sure it will work well for apples though.

Good luck with your furniture shopping! That should be fun!

Nancy,

I couldn't live without my iron skillets...my Gram always used them. For years I was afraid to use them..till I figured out how easy they really are. I like how they brown the foods and cook evenly. They are both well seasoned..

I found a really good deal on a 3 qt allclad saute pan, after Christmas..hubby wants to buy me a set..they are so expensive..I said maybe for our 25th wedding anniversary....lol.. Do you own any of those pans?
