The crumb mixture and cream filling recipes are just enough to make this layer cake. My photo was of a cake baked in 8-inch pans, but you should use 9-inch pans for the best results. (I couldn't find my 9-inch when I decided to bake this time.)

We couldn't decide which of the many layers in this crumb cake was our favorite. We love the filling. The flavor of the moist cake was delicious, and the crumbs kind of give it sort of a crunch. Everyone will be asking for a second slice of this cake!

Ingredients For cream filled chocolate chip crumb cake

  • 2 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 3/4 c
    softened butter
  • 1 c
    plus 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1 c
    mini chocolate chips
  • CRUMBS
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 c
    white sugar
  • 1/4 c
    softened butter
  • 1/2 c
    flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • CREAM FILLING
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter, softened
  • 1 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1/4 c
    heavy whipping cream

How To Make cream filled chocolate chip crumb cake

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 2- 9 inch pans.

    Make crumb mixture first. Mix ingredients together until crumbs form. This will be enough crumbs to cover the top of one of the layers.

    For cake, cream together butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and milk. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Add chocolate chips last and mix well into the batter. Pour into the greased and floured pans. Spread crumbs on top of only one layer. Bake for 30-40 minutes, test for done.

    Once cake tests done, remove from oven and let cool completely. While cake is cooling, prepare the cream filling by combining all ingredients and mix until fluffy. Once the cake is completely cooled spread cream filling on the top of layer without crumbs.

    Place crumb layer on top of cream layer. Top off the cake by sprinkling confectioners sugar over the crumbs.
