Ingredients For boston cream pie

  • FOR CAKE
  • 1 pkg
    yellow cake mix
  • 4
    egg yolks
  • 1 1/3 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • FOR CREAM FILLING
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 3 c
    milk
  • 3
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • FOR GLAZE
  • 1 c
    creamy home style dark chocolate frosting
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter, melted

How To Make boston cream pie

    Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans. For cake, combine cake mix, egg yolks, water, and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer for 4 minutes.

    Pour into pans. Bake at 350° for 23-31 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool following package directions.

    For cream filling: place sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan. Stir until blended. Add milk and eggs. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Pour filling into bowl. Place plastic wrap on surface. Refrigerate for 3 hours or until completely chilled.

    To assemble, place each cake layer on serving plate. Split layers in half horizontally. Spread half the filling (about 1 3/4 cups) on bottom of one cake. Place top layer on filling. Repeat for second cake layer.

    For glaze, combine frosting and melted butter in microwave safe bowl. Stir until blended. Heat in microwave oven at high (100 percent power) for 20-25 seconds. Stir. Spread half the glaze over the top of each cake. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
