Blue Ribbon Recipe

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
Sweet, nutty and delicate, these yummy white chocolate bars are made even more special by the addition of brown sugar meringue... So good!

Ingredients

2 c
flour
1/2 c
powdered sugar
1 c
softened butter - not melted
2 c
white chocolate chips
1 1/4 c
chopped macadamia nuts
3
egg whites
1 c
light brown sugar

Directions Step-By-Step

Crust: mix flour, powdered sugar, and butter with pastry blender until crumbly. Press firmly into a ungreased 13X9 pan and bake at 375° for 14 minutes or until golden. Remove from heat.

Topping: sprinkle morsels and 1 cup nuts over the hot crust.

Beat egg whites with mixer until frothy. Gradually add brown sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue over morsels and nuts. Sprinkle with remaining nuts. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cool.

Oh... and another note: these should be served hot from my experience. The chips harden when cooled and the bars turn crunchy.

Wasn't thrilled with the way they came out. A neat idea, but the taste for me wasn't as satifying as I had hoped. Just a little disappointing. Honestly, I would ditch the merinque and put a whipped cream on top when served.

Well, these look delicious, but I made them with a doubled topping. I halved the recipe other than the meringue. I hope they will still be okay.

Yes, it is a Keeper...I will try grinding in my Ninja, but everyone really liked them ( I just chopped the nuts a bit) and did the ones on the top, a little more than cracked.....That Meringue makes the whole thing more wonderful....Super Keeper...
