Our Family Christmas Cookies

This is my grandaughter making her own cookies at my house. I found this rcipe in the local news paper when I lived in Ohio over 40 years ago and still make this same recipe every year. My daughter came into the room and cried when she saw her daughter making these. Brought back memories for her and how good they taste. They took one plate full home for them and another plate for Sunday School.

Ingredients

1/3 c
soft shortening
1/3 c
sugar
1 large
egg
2/3 c
honey
1 tsp
lemon flavoring
2-3/4 c
flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
salt
icing:
1 c
confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp
lemon flavoring
1 Tbsp
milk

Directions Step-By-Step

Preheat oven to 375

Mix shortening, sugar, egg, honey, lemon flavoring until smooth.

Sift flour,baking soda and salt together.

Add mixture and mix well.

Place in refregiator to chill dough for an hour.

Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick on floured service.

Cut into desired shapes by dipping cutter into flour before placing on dough.

Place on cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until when touch slightly with finger no imprint remains.

Remove from pan and cool on rack. Mix ingredients for icing in a bowl. Might need to add more sugar or milk to spread evenly. Decorate with white icing or add food coloring as desired.

Add sprinkles or designs as desired.
