This was a favorite cookie growing up and still is.

These are a great addition to any holiday cookie platter for fall and winter.

If you love molasses flavor, you'll go crazy for these and they're totally addictive. Yummmmm!!! :)

Ingredients

3/4 c
shortening
1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1
egg
1/4 c
molasses
2 1/4 c
all purpose flour
2 tsp
baking soda
1/4 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
cloves
1 tsp
cinnamon
1 tsp
ginger

Step-By-Step

1Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly.

Combine dry ingredients and add to first mixture.

Chill for about 1 hr.

2Roll into balls about the size of a large walnut.

Dip tops in sugar and place sugar side up on greased cookie sheets abot 2" apart.

3Dip tip of finger in a small cup of water and touch the top of each cookie to wet the sugar (that's what makes the crackle effect when baked.)

4Bake at 375* for 10-12 minutes. Cool for a few minutes and remove to cooling rack. Makes 4 dozen.
