Green Peppermint Meltaway Cookies,Grandma's Recipe

This is another recipe from my Grandma Carr's file. These do just melt in your mouth. The green peppermint flavor was special for Christmas.

1 c
butter, softened
1/2 c
powdered sugar, sifted
1 tsp
peppermint flavoring
drops green food coloring
2 1/4 c
cake flour
1/4 tsp
powdered sugar for sprinkling on warm cookies

Directions Step-By-Step

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix butter, powdered sugar, peppermint extract, and green food coloring together well.

Stir together flour and salt. Mix into butter mixture. Drop cookies from teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Use your fingers to smooth tops of cookies, if desired. They look pretty with a more smoothly rounded top. Cookies do not spread.
Bake for 8-9 minutes. While warm sprinkle cookies with a little powdered sugar, if desired.

NOTE: Using real butter and cake flour makes these cookies very tender and makes them melt in your mouth.
