My husband, Anthony & I were at HR Block in March of this year 2011 getting our taxes done and one of the tax consultants was walking out with a crock pot of chili. I told him that is smelled delicious and then he offered us a bowl. So I said yes since we had been there for 2 hours already. Well, I was taken back by the taste of this sweet and spicy chili and was trying to figure out what was in it. 1st and 2nd guesses were honey and maple syrup and my third guess I asked if it was chocolate that he added and he said yes. He told me that he loves making all different kinds of chili and began telling me the main ingredients.
So, I was so excited I decided to have a Chili Cook Off with my husband and this is what I came up with for my chili.
You'll see in the picture I posted that I chickened out adding red pepper and the addt'l serrano peppers and decided not to add garlic. It is definitely a chili with some heat to it. So, I am glad I didn't add anything more.
P.S.---Now I need to add my husband's Chili recipe from our first cook-off. His is over the top fire hot Texas style chili.
The sweet spicy flavor of this chili comes through in this one. Chili lovers are sure to love this one!
For all of the tomatoes and beans in the recipe, we used 15 oz. cans.
Add the 2 squares of chocolate about 1/2 to 45 minutes before done.
