This is a recipe that has been handed down in my family from my father's side of the family, the Bozarth's. Growing up this was a special treat to have for dessert - and my father's favorite - as it is an extremely moist cake covered in the brown sugar sauce. For all you chocolate lovers, don't be afraid to quarter or half this pudding/cake and enjoy by yourself or with that special someone. I am not ashamed to say that I had some as dinner one night.
PUDDING/CAKE: Melt chocolate and margarine in top of double boiler over hot water. Remove from heat and add 1/2 cup sugar and 1 egg. Sift 1 cup flour, 1 teas. baking powder and 1/4 teas. salt together. Measure 1/2 cup milk. Start with flour mix and add, alternating with the milk. Mix well after each addition. Use flour mix first and last. Steam 1 hour over boiling water.
SAUCE: Mix 1/4 cup margarine, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1 beaten egg, and 1/2 teas. vanilla. You can make this while the Pudding/Cake is steaming and set aside.
