susan's Notes:

I found this recipe in a 1993 edition of Taste of Home Magazine. My mother-in-law loved this cake.

Directions

1
In a large saucepan, bring butter and water to boil.
2
Remove from the heat, stir in flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, almond extract, slat and baking soda until smooth.
3
Pour into a greased 15-in x 10 in x 1 baking pan.
4
Bake at 375 for 20 to 22 minutes or until cake is golden brown and tests done. Cool for 20 minutes
5
Meanwhile for frosting, combine butter and milk in a saucepan. Bring to boil.
6
Remove from heat, add sugar and extract and mix well. Stir in walnuts
7
Spread over warm cake.

I can attest to the fact that this recipe rocks! I am constantly requested to make this for church potlucks. It's extremely easy and feeds a large crowd. I have also made this by substituting vanilla extract for the almond, and it's fabulous either way. Just depends on your own personal taste. While the cake is baking, I wash the sauce pan I used to make it, and use it for the frosting, so clean up is easy! :)
