You can use any type of soda you wish. Diet just cuts the calories for those of trying to lose weight! :-)

Hi, I'm not Star, but maybe I can help. You just use the dry mix & soda. It doesn't have to be diet soda, it can be regular soda too. Happy baking!!!!!!

I just made some cupcakes. I mixed Moist-Style Yellow Cake Mix with 12oz Sprite Zero. I baked then at 350 for 23 mins. and they came out very dense. How can I make them lighter?

'Am intrigued by your recipe so had to make it today...with some modifications; namely, I used: Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, 12 oz. room-temperature diet 7-Up minus 1 t. which was replaced with 1/2 t. orange extract and 1/2 t. coconut extract, about 1/2 t. ground ginger, and about 1/3 c. shredded coconut. Method: I whisked in the 7-Up in thirds so as not to deflate it too much; lined the bottoms of my two 8" round cake pans with parchment paper which were then sprayed with butter-flavored Pam. Cooked on center rack of 350 deg. pre-heated oven for about 25-30 min. Cooled 15 min. before removing from pans (and parchment) to finish cooling. Served plain cake wedges topped with whipped cream. VERY GOOD! Thank you! -- f.y.i. Next, I'll try either spice cake mix with ginger ale, shredded carrots, nuts and/or raisins OR spice cake mix with ginger ale, powdered ginger, candied ginger, and chocolate chips. I truly am excited about the possibilities.
