Fern lived next door to us when I was a carpet muncher in Eureka, MI. She made this raisin cake and shared with all of us girls. I can remember going next door for this snack cake and the walk through the snow being worth it!
Boil raisins for 10 minutes. Add butter and remove from the stove. Set and cool 10 minutes.
Combine dry ingredients and add rasin mixture and mix well with spoon. Add beaten egg and mix well. Add nuts if desired.
Pour into greased 1/2 sheet pan (10" by 14"). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. You may wish to use less of the spices at first but is best with a bit of spiceness. Glaze with a powdered sugar frosting when warm.
