Ginger's Notes:

This is very easy to prepare, and you will get compliements one after the other.

Directions

1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9- inch baking pan.

To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mix well. Spread pumpkin mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.

Serve with fresh whipped cream.

Love this recipe! I got it from watching Paula Deen and have been making it every Thanksgiving since. My family prefers this to pumpkin pie any day. YUMMY!

I made the Paula Deen version, which varies only in the cake mix. Her recipe calls for a butter recipe cake mix. It is delicious and I got many requests for the recipe!

I also used the Paula Dean base recipe, but made it with gluten free cake mix. Everyone loved it at our game night. Would be a good addition to the holidays in place of pumpkin pie for sure!

I am looking for a recipe that will be cake on top, with pudding on the bottom. Would this recipe possibly be what I'm looking for (I HOPE!!!)?

This recipe uses the cake mix as the crust, so it's not the one you had in mind, unfortunately. But you can join the group:

I have made this several times, from other recipes, I used this one this week and it is sooo good. I didn't make one change because I was out of nutmeg so used pumpkin pie spice. I always add a little extra when serving and top with whipped cream. No need to skimp on the calories with this cake. Two Thumbs up.
