Diane's Notes:

This recipe came from an old friend of mine Judy Visser Shindlbeck. My mom, Betty Lillie, is in charge of making this dessert in our family. My kids never ask me (I don't know why, kids are weird like that) to make it but they beg their grandma to make "that ice cream thing". So here is the recipe for "that ice cream thing".
**NOTE** This is even more yummy if you use chocolate flavored malted milk powder. I posted it as it was originally given to me and it's out of this world good but try it with the chocolate malted milk powder it's even better!!

Comments from the Test Kitchen: Kitchen Crew

Malted milk balls are a family favorite in my house and this lovely recipe brought back a bushel full of memories! The more malt powder in this one, the better.

Directions

1
1. Mix first three ingredients together and press into 9x13 pan. Freeze for 1 hour.
2
2.Add crushed malted milk balls and milk into the softened ice cream, mix well. Pour over crust. Freeze.
3
3.Mix marshmallow creme, malted milk powder, and milk together. Add whipping cream and beat in mixer until stiff peaks form. Pour over ice cream. Freeze for several hours.

after you cut into this dessert do you keep it in the freezer or the fridge?

You keep in in the freezer. It's an ice cream dessert so you want to keep it frozen. It is hard to cut at first so we bring it out and let it set on the counter a little bit until you can cut it easier.

Congrats on the Blue Ribbon! Will try this recipe when the weather is warmer, especially not today with temps below 0!! Saw the write up in the local newspaper about you being awarded the Blue Ribbon on this website. Had to check it out. Thanks again for the recipe. I'm sure my kids and grandkids will love the ice cream pie.

Thank you Wendy! It was fun getting the blue ribbon, my Mom keeps saying "But I gave you the recipe!" LOL. I noticed in the store that they had strawberry malt balls, so then I was thinking Breyers strawberry ice cream with strawberry malt powder...hmmmm....maybe a Valentines Day dessert! Please let me know how your family likes it when you make it and I agree it's waaaaayyy too cold today!!!

Great idea Diane! I will surely give it a try! Love trying new things and changing recipes :) I bet this recipe would be good with a shortbread crust or something with nuts in the crust as well. I will have to give it a try. Stay warm! Thanks again for the strawberry idea...my husband loves anything strawberry.
