1MIX PECANS AND COCONUT TOGETHER.SPREAD EVENLY IN BOTTOM OF 9X13 CAKE PAN.PREPARE CAKE MIX BY DIRECTIONS ON BOX,POUR EVENLY OVER NUTS AND COCONUT.HEAT BUTTER AND CREAM CHEESE IN SAUCEPAN.STIR UNTIL MELTED(DO NOT BOIL).REMOVE FROM HEAT;STIR IN CONFECTIONER'S SUGAR.
2POUR OVER CAKE MIX.BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 35 MINUTES OR UNTIL CAKE TESTS DONE WITH TOOTHPICK.REMOVE, LET COOL,AND CUT INTO SQUARES.SERVE.

So, does the butter and cream cheese mixture sink to the bottom to make the frosting gooey? I would think that cream cheese would alter the nummy German chocolate cake taste.

the frosting is delicious and it does not bother the taste or the flavor of the german chocolate cake.you will absolutely love this recipe.
