Cream shortenening and sugar. Add egg yolks, milk flour, alternately. Dissolve chocolate in 1/4 cup water and vanilla. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. Bake at 30 to 35 minutes.
1/2 pkg. German chocolate, 1 c. sugar, 1/2 stick magarine, 1 c. milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 egg yolks, 1 can angle flake coconut, 1/2 c. nuts
Cook all together except coconut, nuts, and vanilla. Add them last, when icing is done. Put icing on warm cake.
