Place fruit cocktail, including juice, into large bowl. Add white sugar and egg. Mix well, and then add dry ingredients.
Mix until well blended and spoon into a well greased 9" square cake pan.
Stir together chopped nuts and brown sugar. Add to top of cake batter. Lightly pat down. Bake until done, about 40 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly browned. Toothpick test does not work with this recipe.
