Deb's Notes:

A long, long time ago, my home economics teacher showed us how to make super easy donuts from regular white sandwich bread. These donuts are done as fast as pouring a bowl of cereal! Kind of like french toast, but you deep fry these wonderful puffs of yummy! I had always made them with cinnamon sugar shaken on top. Then I found a recipe on the internet that "stuffs" 2 slices with jam and then batter them. WOW! YUM-O!

Directions

1
Heat vegetable oil in a pan, deep enough to cover half the donut. Check if oil is hot enough, flick one drop of water into pan. When it starts singing, it is hot enough to deep fry.
2
Beat eggs, milk, vanilla and sugar in a bowl. Set aside.
Cut crusts off of the bread and cut into 4 triangles for each slice.
3
If you want stuffed donuts:
Spread a small amount of preserves on one half of bread and top it with another slice.
4
Soak the bread triangles covering both sides and edges well.
Fry the egg-soaked bread until golden on both sides.
5
For regular donuts, move to cooling rack and shake cinnamon sugar on both sides.

For stuffed donuts, remove to cooling rack and let cool for a little bit. Shake them in a ziplock with powdered sugar to coat.

Not only are these extremely easy to make they really do taste good too! Two of my sons and I were looking for a fast easy snack to make tonight and I thought making these would be the perfect thing to try since they sounded so quick and easy plus i already had all the ingredients. In all honesty I think these taste BETTER than the canned biscuit donuts. My 21 year old son liked them so much that he told me I need to start locking up the bread now because whenever he wants a quick snack he's going to be tempted to make these. LOL! Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Hi Deb, I made these both ways...plain with sugar and cinnamon and the sandwich with homemade strawberry marmalade. I also tried the plain with maple syrup which I liked, but then again they were all yummy. Thanks for this quick & easy snack.
