(20 ounces) cherry pie filling

1Heat oven to 350°degree F.
Generously butter an 8-inch square baking pan. Spread the cherry pie filling over the bottom.
2Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
3In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and flavorings. Beat in the sifted dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Beat until well blended.
4Spoon over the cherry pie filling; spread to cover.
5Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly touched with finger.
6Let cool for about 10 minutes. Loosen sides and carefully invert on a serving plate or cake server.
If some of the cherries stick to the pan..just take a spoon and place them back where they belong..I love this cake , because it has just enough almond flavor, and tastes great with the cherries.
