1 c	shortening
2 c	sugar
1 tsp	salt
1 tsp	vanilla
2	eggs
2 1/4 c	unsifted flour
1 c	buttermilk
1/2 c	cocoa
2 tsp	soda
1 c	hot water

When I make a cake from scratch, this is the cake I make. I make this cake often. It is sooooo good.

Directions

In large mixing bowl cream shortening, sugar, salt and vanilla. Add eggs and beat with mixer until mixture is very light and creamy. Add flour and buttermilk and beat 2 more minutes. In small mixing bowl mix cocoa, soda and hot water. Add to rest of batter. Put into a well geased and floured 13x9 inch pan. Bake at 350º for about 40-45 minutes. Frost with your favorite frosting.

Your recipe calls for shortening,,what do you use...butter?? or crisco?? Would like to make this cake today for my friends birthday...please let me know asap.. Thank you Can't wait to try!!
