When I make a cake from scratch, this is the cake I make. I make this cake often. It is sooooo good.

Ingredients

1 c
shortening
2 c
sugar
1 tsp
salt
1 tsp
vanilla
2
eggs
2 1/4 c
unsifted flour
1 c
buttermilk
1/2 c
cocoa
2 tsp
soda
1 c
hot water

Directions Step-By-Step

In large mixing bowl cream shortening, sugar, salt and vanilla. Add eggs and beat with mixer until mixture is very light and creamy. Add flour and buttermilk and beat 2 more minutes. In small mixing bowl mix cocoa, soda and hot water. Add to rest of batter. Put into a well geased and floured 13x9 inch pan. Bake at 350ยบ for about 40-45 minutes. Frost with your favorite frosting.

Shortening means Crisco

when a recipe calls for shortening it is usually crisco, there is a difference in the finished product between shortening and butter
