Buttermilk Chocolate Cake

2 C. All purpose flour
1 3/4 C. Sugar
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 tsp. Baking soda
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 1/3 C. Buttermilk (or sour milk)
1/2 C. Shortening
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
3 oz. Unsweetened chocolate (melted and cooled)

1Grease and lightly flour two 9 x 1 1/2 inch round baking pans; set aside. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add buttermilk, shortening, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds or until combined. Then beat on medium to high speed for 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Add eggs and melted chocolate, beat for 2 minutes more. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake in a 350F oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake test done. Cool in pans on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove cakes from pans; cool completely. Frost with Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting. Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting; Recipe located in this program
